Far from being “free”, wind is one of the most expensive ways of generating electricity yet devised. Without an almost 100 per cent subsidy, unwittingly paid by all of us through our electricity bills, no one would dream of building giant wind turbines in Britain, because their cost is not remotely competitive. With a little less than a month to go until we find out if Scottish Power are going to go ahead with their proposal to build a wind farm, Chilla-against-Turbines have written a letter to Scottish Power to tell them some reasons why we don't want it in our valley.
We would really appreciate everyone sending Scottish Power a letter to back up our letter. You can give individual reasons why you don't want the turbines or you can simply say that your are writing to back our letter up. The letter is attached and we will publish it on our website shortly. |
