The C.A.T. Fund Raising Group, headed up by Gordon & Mary King, held a fantastic Garden Party in the grounds of their delightful home at Kingswood House on 10th August 2008. Everyone's generosity on the day contributed a grand total of £1,342.65 towards our fighting fund.
We would like to thank everyone who made the event at Kingswood so successful.
People Involved Before the Event:
- Liability Insurance was purchased by G & M King and the cost of this
was donated by Philip and Alex Crosthwaite Eyre.
- Gordon King designed and printed posters.
- G & M King placed ads in local papers to advertise the event.
- Lillian Rainger, Wendy Stratton, Richard Flynn, Gordon King, Jean Bowden, Roy Houghton, Richard Whiterow; all posted leaflets and the CAT news letter covering local villages door to door to advertise the event.
- Wendy Bowden and Mary King were on call to collect gifts and coordinate the distribution of posters and leaflets and arrange the printing of leaflets.
On The Day:
Many people turned out to help. We were blessed, against all odds, by good weather, which contributed to the large turnout.
- Richard Flynn fitted wire to the slippery bridge.
- Gordon King provided and erected direction signs and posters for Kingswood.
- Steve Bowden finished the strimming that rain had prevented us doing in advance.
- David Lamb brought us tables and chairs which were kindly offered by Highampton
Village Hall.
- Geoff and Wendy Bowden loaned tables and collected gifts from various sources.
- Peter Crowle and Ben at the suggestion of Roy Houghton put on an excellent film show which displayed the negative aspects of wind turbines.
- Malcombe Snelgrove displayed wild life information showing areas which could be negatively affected by the erection of wind turbines. He also gathered information on local wildlife, bat colonies etc.
- Mary & Gordon King donated the cream teas and other food and drink. These were served by Brenda & Ray Saunders from Bude. Brenda also made scones and donated some plants.
- Wendy Stratton took entrance fees and provided floats for the stalls.
- Pam & Richard Whiterow donated plants and ran the plant stall
- Mrs Houghton donated cakes and ran the cake table.
- Jean Bowden donated 50 scones as did Pam Whiterow.
- Betty Darke made the 'Guess the Weight' cake and brought the water boiler on loan from Chilla Chapel for the cream teas.
- Lillian Rainger donated many items and along with Jan Garey ran the bricabrac table.
- Lyn Cook & Cathy ran the books & toys table
- The 'Sweets Guess' jar was donated by M & G King.
- There was a group of tables organised and run by the Bowden families, Jean, Claire, Louise, and Paula, Wendy, Angela, Sara & Phil, these included, Face Painting, Lucky Dip, Tombola and Raffle
Tickets.
- Richard Whiterow and Neil did an excellent job on car parking and Geoff Bowden persuading others to park in the soggy field with the promise of being pulled out if necessary.
- Yvonne and Gary Hooper donated and sold garden ornaments.
- Many gift donations were given for the Raffle Prizes including vouchers from local businesses, a meat voucher, a fish & chip voucher, and a fishing voucher. We also received monetary gifts.
Other willing helpers were on hand to relieve stall holders. And our apoligies if we have missed any name off the list. It was good to see so many young people taking an enthusiastic part in the fund raising - they made it such fun!
Once again a sincere, Thank You, to all. We have seen much heart warming community spirit and long may it continue!
